چکیده

We investigate the exploration of networks by a mobile agent. It is long known that, without global information about the graph, it is not possible to make the agent halts after the exploration except if the graph is a tree. We therefore endow the agent with binoculars, a sensing device that can show the local structure of the environment at a constant distance of the agent current location. We show that, with binoculars, it is possible to explore and halt in a large class of non-tree networks. We give a complete characterization of the class of networks that can be explored using binoculars using standard notions of discrete topology. This class is much larger than the class of trees: it contains in particular chordal graphs, plane triangulations and triangulations of the projective plane. Our characterization is constructive, we present an Exploration algorithm that is universal; this algorithm explores any network explorable with binoculars, and never halts in non-explorable networks.

Using Binoculars for Fast Exploration and Map Construction in Chordal Graphs and Extensions

Binoculars: Comprehending Open Source Projects through Graphs

Comprehending Open Source Software (OSS) projects requires dealing with huge historical information stored in heterogeneous repositories, such as source code versioning systems, bug tracking system, mailing lists, and revision history logs. In this paper, we present Binoculars, a prototype tool which aims to provide a platform for graph based visualization and exploration of OSS projects. We de...

Memory Efficient Anonymous Graph Exploration

Efficient exploration of unknown or unmapped environments has become one of the fundamental problem domains in algorithm design. Its applications range from robot navigation in hazardous environments to rigorous searching, indexing and analysing digital data available on the Internet. A large number of exploration algorithms has been proposed under various assumptions about the capability of mo...

Setting Port Numbers for Fast Graph Exploration

We consider the problem of periodic graph exploration by a finite automaton in which an automaton with a constant number of states has to explore all unknown anonymous graphs of arbitrary size and arbitrary maximum degree. In anonymous graphs, nodes are not labeled but edges are labeled in a local manner (called local orientation) so that the automaton is able to distinguish them. Precisely, th...

Anonymous Graph Exploration without Collision by Mobile Robots R. Baldoni F. Bonnet A. Milani M. Raynal

Considering autonomous mobile robots moving on a finite anonymous graph, this paper focuses on the Constrained Perpetual Graph Exploration problem (CPGE). That problem requires each robot to perpetually visit all the vertices of the graph, in such a way that no vertex hosts more than one robot at a time, and each edge is traversed by at most one robot at a time. The paper states an upper bound ...
